Objective methods for evaluation of the audio signal quality

This diploma thesis deals with the objective methods of audio-signal qualification. In detail have been described algorithms to the reader which are used in individual methods. Individual methods are analyzed from computational intensity, ability to predict precisely subjective quality of audio-signals, point of view. There have been described basic variables by which audio-signals are described in further parts of this thesis. Second part has been dedicated to theoretical description of individual methods – their advantages and disadvantages and practical forms of usage. Third part has been dedicated to implementation of two chosen methods in graphical interface of MATLAB program. All the functions are described in detail which these applications offer. In the last part of the thesis there are in detail described results obtained by practical testing of audio-signals with different character in created applications and evaluated quality of reached results as an outcome.

The bachelor thesis deals with the negative impact of wild mammals on fruit trees and orchards. The main aim is to find out which mammal species are harmful to fruit trees and what types of damage they cause. Based on the literature, it is then possible to derive solutions to effectively protect against this damage. In addition, a questionnaire survey can also be used to address the problem. Damage to fruit trees is most common from rodents (Rodentia), even-toed ungulates (Artiodactyla) and hares (Lagomorpha). Several important factors influence the impact of these mammals on fruit trees. Rodents cause the most damage at times of peak abundance, so regular monitoring is needed. Currently, there is a growing interest in biological control of mammals, where no chemical products are used. However, due to its immediate result and ease of application, chemical control still prevails.
Phytopathogenic fungi causing necrosis of Acer pseudoplatanus bark

Bark necrosis is a symptom of variously serious diseases caused by various pathogens. Sycamore is relatively susceptible to bark necrosis, especially trees weakened by stress such as climatic extremes or anthropogenic pollution. Causal agents are Ascomycetes and also Peronosporomycetes of the genus Phytophthora. Degree of pathogenicity is variable, ranging from local necrosis to cankers invading cambium resulting in death of the host. Pathogens can be classified as opportunistic (Cryptostroma corticale), weak (Prosthecium pyriforme) or obligate (Eutypella parasitica). Saprophytes decomposing dead tissue can also be isolated from necroses. To prove non-pathogenicity of these species inoculation experiments on the host are needed. Mycophagous fungi may grow in necroses as hyperparasites (Acremonium sp.). Various species of invertebrates search for necroses as a source of food and shelter. Several small mammals were observed feeding on bark necroses. Their role in spreading spores and initiating a gateway for infection is also considered.

Digestive enzymes in ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) : a short review

The literature data on the digestive enzymes present in different taxonomic groups of ants are reviewed and their patterns of occurrence across the various groups are tested. Data are available on 32 digestive enzymes from 62 ant species from 15 tribes belonging to seven subfamilies (Dolichoderinae, Ecitoninae, Formicinae, Myrmicinae, Paraponerinae, Ponerinae, and Pseudomyrmecinae). Leaf-cutter ants (Myrmicinae, higher Attini) are the best-investigated group. Nearly all analysed enzymes were present in all the species investigated, irrespective of taxonomic group. The only significant difference across taxonomic groups concerns enzymes that attack plant structural polysaccharides (cellulases, pectinase, xylanase). These were more frequent in leaf-cutter ants than in other groups. To detect potential additional differences between groups differing in their feeding habits, more comprehensive qualitative data acquisition will be necessary.
